The movement is fitted into a small can (sometimes with rounded ends) that is a friction fit into the recess, and is rear wound and set. The movement and dial are hinged to the can to swing out for rear winding and setting. These clocks were supplied by several mfg’s, notably Elgin and Waltham, (Am) or Jaeger (Swiss).
